Arsenal's Robin Van Persie linked with Inter Milan after criticising wage structure
I'VE ADDED THE PICTURES TO THE GALLERY, OF TODAYS TRAINING, YOU CAN SEE THEM HERE!!

Robin van Persie, the Arsenal forward, features strongly on new Inter Milan manager Jose Mourinho's transfer list, according to reports, doing little to restore Arsenal fans’ confidence that the north London club are capable of retaining senior players with their current wage structure.

Van Persie, currently on international duty with Holland at Euro 2008, spoke out recently in criticism of the club’s current wage set-up, suggesting that the carrot the club offer their players is incapable of rivalling other teams.

Linked: Van Persie could be next to leave
The Dutchman’s laments about the club’s wage policy will be a serious cause for concern for the Arsenal board. If it is money that the Dutchman is interested in, Arsenal will have a tough time keeping hold of the player, with Inter apparently able to double his current salary.

Van Persie, who is valued at around £15 million, has stalled talks at the Emirates, demanding that the club further demonstrate their ability to keep star players in situ before he signs a new deal. "Keeping this team together," he says, is of vital importance.

However, Arsenal have already lost Mathieu Flamini to AC Milan this summer, and Alexander Hleb is expected to follow the Frenchman to the continent shortly, with Bayern Munich and Barcelona leading the chase to sign him.

The recent signing of Aaron Ramsey from Cardiff City will do little to lift van Persie's spirits. He is more concerned with ensuring that established players stay at the Emirates than bringing in untested talent.

In this context, Van Persie will be reassured by what looks to have been a successful attempt by Arsene Wenger to keep hold of Emmanuel Adebayor despite AC Milan's expressed interest in the striker. The Tongo international is said to be on the verge of signing a new contract at the Emirates.

Van Basten: Robin made the difference
I've ADDED THE PICTURES OF TODAYS PRESSCONFERENCE, YOU CAN SEE THEM HERE!!

Dutch coach Marco van Basten has praised both Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben for their performances against France, in which the Netherlands won 4-1.

van Persie has missed most of the Gunners' domestic campaign through injury and is therefore fresher compared to his other team mates and will be looking to get some much-needed match practice under his belt.

van Basten said: "We were lucky when we were under pressure but it is very comforting when you can bring on players like Robben and van Persie.

"It was necessary to start stretching the French and their goals made the difference."

Van Persie relishing Dutch form
I'VE ADDED THE PICTURES TO THE GALLERY, YOU CAN SEE THEM HERE!!

Goal hero Robin van Persie was unable to mask his delight after Holland's stunning 4-1 win over France at Euro 2008.

Dirk Kuyt, Van Persie, Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder all hit the target as the Dutch secured their passage into the quarter finals with one round of matches still remaining in Group C.

Van Persie replaced Kuyt in the 55th minute and four minutes later his rasping volley from Robben's cross put the Dutch 2-0 up.

And the Arsenal forward said: "That I scored this goal now, is a dream come."

Van Persie also admitted he had not found it easy starting on the bench, but was realistic in accepting coach Marco van Basten's decision.

"That is how I am. But I am not stupid. The first match against Italy went very well," he added.

After an injury ravaged season in London, Van Persie undertook an intensive rehabilitation programme to be fit for Euro 2008.

"I have had a very difficult season," he explained. "So this is marvellous.

"I can hardly comprehend that we are the group winners and part of the quarter-finals after two games. But we must stay realistic; it was just two games. We still have a long way to go."

Liverpool attacker Kuyt praised the contribution of the whole Oranje squad in Bern.

"You notice that all the players want to take an extra step for their team-mates. This is a good mix," he said.

If Holland lose to Romania in their final group game, then World Cup finalists Italy and France would both be out of the competition.

However, Kuyt was quick to dismiss suggestions that he and his team-mates would take their foot off the gas having already qualified.

"We must do our sporting duty. Fair play is part of the tournament," Kuyt added

VAN PERSIE CALLS FOR EXTRA MATCH
Robin van Persie has asked Holland coach Marco van Basten for an extra practice match as the Dutch continue their preparations for Euro 2008.

The Arsenal striker played only 13 games last season because of a thigh injury and missed all three Holland friendlies in the build-up to the tournament which starts on June 9 for the Oranje with a meeting with Italy.

"I have asked the coach for an extra warm-up match," Van Persie told Voetbal International.

"If needed, in the form of a game during training.

"But an extra match against a team that is in the neighbourhood is also okay with me.

"It would be ideal for me if it can be done, but I do understand that the coach needs to think about the other players too.

"It must fit into the total picture, of course."

Arsenal Must Pay More, Warns Van Persie
Arsenal star Robin van Persie has risked ruffling some important feathers at the Emirates by insisting the club must be prepared to spend more on salaries in order to prevent from finding themselves in a state of constant upheaval.

The Dutch international's open criticism came just a day after the Gunners' finance director insisted that the club would not break their strict wage structure, suggesting that the long-term implications outweigh the short-term benefits.

The overwhelming belief is that new Milan midfielder Mathieu Flamini only left Arsenal for the money and that Alexander Hleb is set to follow suit. Now, Van Persie has warned that this trend will likely continue, unless Arsenal are prepared to stop 'nickel and diming'.

"They should make sure that these players stay,” said Van Persie. “Arsenal have a policy in which they will not go over a specific amount of money when agreeing the salary of a player.

"They won't pay enormous amounts of money. I think that they should go to a higher level of salary.

"If you want to keep the group together, you have to keep them happy. If you are 27 or 28, I can understand that you would make the decision to go elsewhere if you can earn three or four times as much.

"If that sort of money was also paid here, I'm sure that person would stay.

"It is the principle. It is very important that Arsenal keep these guys. This group is unique. If a number of them leave, it will be different.

"I think of myself as an Arsenal man but Arsenal should also try to make sure that we all grow together."

Van Basten not prepared to risk van Persie
I've added some pictures of robin today at a pressconference, you can see them here!!

HOENDERLOO, The Netherlands (AFP) - Injury-plagued Dutch striker Robin van Persie will sit out Thursday's Euro 2008 warm-up match with Denmark as Netherlands coach Marco van Basten does not want to risk him aggravating a thigh injury.

The 24-year-old Arsenal star is considered integral to van Basten's plans for the Dutch to add the 2008 European title to the one he won as a player in 1988.

"Robin wanted to train and play normally (on Tuesday)," said van Basten, who steps down after the tournament whatever the outcome to take over at Ajax.

"He felt up to it but we have to slow him down. There is no point in playing him on Thursday.

"This season at Arsenal, Robin came back too soon after an injury and he had a relapse.

"That is why our doctors believe it is better to allow him to recuperate as long as possible rather than risk him being injured in a friendly.

"We are not going to take any risks with Robin because he is a special player who will be very useful when we face Italy (on June 9 in Berne)," added van Basten.

Van Persie, scorer of seven goals in his 23 internationals, suffered from several different injuries during what was both a frustrating campaign for him and the club, as he went down with knee, thigh and ankle problems.

While he will not play any part against the 1992 European champions, who have not qualified this time, van Basten is set to give a role to left winger Arjen Robben and his Real Madrid team-mates Wesley Sneijder and Ruud van Nistelrooy - while Manchester United's Champions League final hero Edwin van der Sar is also likely to play.

"Arjen had played eight to nine matches in a row with Real Madrid," said van Basten.

"His injury problems appear to be over. That is very positive."

None of that quartet had played in Saturday's 3-0 friendly victory over Ukraine.

The Dutch are in the Group of Death, aside from world champions Italy they also have to face World Cup finalists France and dark horses Romania on June 13 and June 17 respectively

Netherlands 3-0 Ukraine
ROBIN DIDN'T PLAY, BUT HE WAS IN THE STADION, YOU CAN SEE SOME PICTURES OF IT HERE!!

The Dutch sealed a great 3-0 home win over an ailing Ukrainian side thanks to two first-half goals and a late addition from the sub's bench.

Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt staked a massive claim towards joining up with the Oranje at Euro 2008 as he headed Gio van Bronckhorst's cross past Kernozenko 22 minutes in. This was notable because it was the hosts' first real chance of the game.

The Oranje were well and truly on top, but nonetheless found chances hard to come by after that. Still, just before the break as Klaas-Jan Huntelaar made it two after some fine build-up play from Rafael van der Vaart.

Ukraine were demoralised and the Dutch were more apt to press forward in the second period. But the game wrapped up, home coach Marco Van Basten made a host of substitutes: Ryan Babel, Tim De Cler and Khalid Boulahrouz all came on just after the hour mark, while Matijsen, De Long and Landzaat were to join them later.

However, the star of the sub show was Babel, who netted just four minutes after coming on thanks to yet more great work from van der Vaart.

Van Basten prepared to bend rules for Van Persie
ROTTERDAM, May 23 (Friendly) - Holland coach Marco van Basten is set to make an exception to his rule of not including injury-prone players in his Euro 2008 squad for Robin van Persie.

Preparations for next month's finals in Austria and Switzerland move up a gear on Saturday when Oranje take on Ukraine, with further warm-up games lined up against Denmark and Wales.

'It's important to take fit players to the tournament,' said the 43-year-old coach, who has to reduce his 26-man squad to 23 by May 28.

'It's easier to work together with guys like that than with guys who injure easily. Our basic rule is that everyone that joins our squad has to be able to start in the first match against Italy.'

However, Van Basten revealed Van Persie - who is struggling with a thigh problem - is likely to make the cut despite having made only seven Premier League appearances for Arsenal this year.

'Suppose Van Persie remains doubtful... We might say `he can start in the second match'. He is a special player. With a player like him, things are different.'

Van Persie will sit out Saturday's meeting with Ukraine along with defender Mario Melchiot.

Saturday's meeting with Ukraine will be the last chance Van Basten will have to see his players in action before deciding who the unlucky three to miss out will be.

And he intends to field a team as close to his first choice as possible for the Rotterdam encounter.

'We want to practise with the line-up we have in mind for the tournament as often as we can, also against Ukraine,' he said. 'But some players have not joined the squad yet or are not yet completely fit.

'Our greatest concern is to get everyone at the same training level and we hope to achieve that in the coming week.'

Van Basten is not too worried about the policy of picking two players for every outfield position in his squad, and hinted he may sacrifice a defender to bring in an extra midfielder or attacker.

'It doesn't really matter if you bring seven or eight defenders along,' he said.

'If that enables you to bring an extra midfielder or striker, I don't see the problem. The point is to keep the balance and bring as many good players as possible.'

Holland, the 1988 European champions, have been drawn alongside Italy, France and Romania in Euro 2008 Group C.

Van Persie And Melchiot To Miss Next Dutch Friendly
I'VE ADDED THE PICTURES OF TODAYS TRAINING TO THE GALLERY..! CLICK HERE TO SEE THEM.

Injury-prone Robin van Persie and Mario Melchiot will miss Saturday’s warm-up game with the Ukraine in Rotterdam, as they are not match-fit yet.

The England-based duo trained separately from the group for the second consecutive day today and Marco van Basten will take no chances, with the European Championship clash with World Cup holders Italy just under three weeks away.

Arsenal forward Van Persie has been struggling with a thigh injury and despite feeling better he’s not ready to play yet. “I hope that I’ll be entirely fit after the weekend,” the ex-Feyenoord man said. But he probably needn’t worry about missing the trip to Switzerland.

A special one

“In principle I believe any footballer who wants to be part of the [final stage] squad has to be able to play in the first match, but Robin is a very special player,” said Van Basten. “We will be taking him with us even if he is a doubt for the Italy game. We don’t want to take risks with Van Persie.”

The 24-year-old has had a nightmare of a season, playing just 23 games with his London side following a number of injuries and the Netherlands boss added: “Maybe he has returned too soon from injuries in the past. That’s why we have chosen to have him train alone. We just have to wait and see when he is totally fit again. But obviously I hope that will be as soon as possible.”

Van Persie and Melchiot train alone
I'VE ADDED THE PICTURES OF TODAYS TRAINING TO THE GALLERY..!! YOU CAN SEE THEM HERE!!

Robin van Persie and Mario Melchiot trained in isolation as Holland's official preparations for Euro 2008 entered their second day on Wednesday.

Wigan defender Melchiot was restricted to ball work as he bids to recover from a groin injury while Arsenal striker Van Persie, coming off a season blighted by knee, thigh and ankle niggles, concentrated on low-stress walking exercises.

Blackburn defender Andre Ooijer, who has been carrying a slight knock, trained with the rest of the squad as normal.

Holland coach Marco van Basten will see his squad increase when Edwin van der Sar, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben join up with the Oranje later in the week.

Van Basten hopes to have a full squad at his disposal for Saturday's friendly against Ukraine in Rotterdam.

Van Basten's final 23-man squad will be announced by May 28 at the latest, with further friendlies against Denmark and Wales to follow.

Holland, the 1988 European champions, have been drawn alongside Italy, France and Romania in Euro 2008 Group C.

Van Persie confident he will be ready for Euro
I'VE ADDED SOME PICTURES OF THE TRAINING OF YESTERDAY! YOU CAN SEE THEM HERE!!

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie boosted Dutch hopes of landing their second European title on Tuesday as he told AFP he believed he would be fully fit by the time Euro 2008 starts on June 7.

The 24-year-old was bedevilled with injuries during the Premiership campaign but insisted that he could get back to top form as The Netherlands attempt to add the 2008 trophy to the one that their 1988 predecessors - which included van Basten - won.

"After all the physical niggles I had this season it is not obvious that I am going to be at the top of my form," said van Persie after the Dutch had had their first training session at their training camp here.

"I must take it gradually (getting back to full fitness) but I am optimistic, I think, that I will be ready for the beginning of the tournament," added van Persie, who trained apart from the rest of the squad with a physiotherapist.

Van Persie, scorer of seven goals in his 23 internationals, suffered from several different injuries during what was both a frustrating campaign for him and the club, as he went down with knee, thigh and ankle problems.

"It is both tiring physically as well as psychologically because each time I thought I was getting back to being fully fit, I had a reverse," he said.

"The coach has confidence in me, which is very pleasing and reassuring," added van Persie, who is unlikely to be fit for the warm-up match with Ukraine on Saturday.

Van Basten, though, is confident van Persie will be lining up with the Dutch come the start of the tournament.

"I do not want to take a risk with Robin," said van Basten, who will step down after the tournament and take charge of Ajax.

"My wish is that he will be 100percent fit on June 9 (the Dutch begin their challenge against world champions Italy)."

The Dutch are in the Group of Death with not only Italy but World Cup finalists France and dark horses Romania.

Robin still in Dutch selection
The Netherlands boss had named a provisional 30-man party on May 6, which he downsized to 26 footballers today. Valencia’s Hedwiges Maduro, AZ’s Kew Jaliens and Urby Emanuelson of Ajax were also dropped, following Milan’s Clarence Seedorf, who declared himself unavailable last Tuesday.

However, the biggest surprise was the re-call of Khalid Boulahrouz (pictured), who has not kicked a ball since November 13 last year! The Sevilla centre-back, who was not part of Van Basten’s initial choices, has already joined the rest of the squad for his first training session, but he must prove his fitness to the technical staff after a serious groin injury lay-off.

Goalkeepers: Sander Boschker (Twente), Van der Sar (Manchester United), Maarten Stekelenburg (Ajax), Henk Timmer (Feyenoord).

Defenders: Fred Bouma (Villa), Tim de Cler (Feyenoord), Johnny Heitinga (Ajax), Joris Mathijsen (HSV), Mario Melchiot (Wigan Athletic), André Ooijer (Blackburn Rovers), Boulahrouz (Sevilla).

Midfielders: Afellay (PSV Eindhoven), Gio van Bronckhorst, Denny Landzaat (both Feyenoord), Orlando Engelaar (Twente), Nigel de Jong, Rafael van der Vaart (HSV), Wes Sneijder (Real Madrid), Demy de Zeeuw (AZ).

Forwards: Ryan Babel, Dirk Kuyt (both Liverpool), Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Ajax), Van Nistelrooy, Robben (both Real Madrid), Robin van Persie (Arsenal), Vennegoor of Hesselink (The Celtic).

Wenger trusts 'world-class' Van Persie to bounce back
If Arsène Wenger could have three wishes before Arsenal launch their next title challenge, an injury-free season for Robin van Persie might well be one of them.

The Dutch forward has been dogged by injury over the past 16 months with a broken metarsal, knee ligaments and thigh problems all playing their part in restricting Van Persie to just 23 appearances since January 21 last year.

The 24-year-old was supposed to be the focal point of Arsenal's attack in the wake of Thierry Henry's departure last summer and lived up to his billing with seven goals in his first 11 games this season. But he was stopped in his tracks by an injury sustained on international duty in October.

Emmanuel Adebayor shouldered the attacking burden impressively in Van Persie's absence, scoring 30 goals in all competitions. Nonetheless, at a Q&A with Arsenal shareholders, Wenger expressed his hope and belief that the Dutchman will be fit enough to share the load next season.

"Robin is unfortunate with injuries at the moment but in my opinion it is nothing more than that," said Wenger.

"It's true that he has missed many, many games this year. We lost him and Eduardo at the same period and it was really bad luck because Eduardo had come on well too.

"You always hope that next season Robin will have an injury-free season. He has so much talent so I am very keen to keep him, I trust him and I hope that he will get rid of his injuries.

"It's simple. For me, Robin van Persie is world class, top, top class.

Van Persie's substitution only a precaution
Arsène Wenger has allayed any fears about the injury Robin van Persie picked up at Derby on Monday night.

The Dutchman scored seven minutes before the break to give the visitors a 2-1 lead. But he was substituted at the interval because of a thigh problem. Van Persie has been sidelined with injuries to both his thighs in 2008 but, speaking after the game, his manager was not overly concerned.

"It was his thigh," said Wenger. "But the substitution was precautionary. There is no problem."

Arsenal.com will have the latest injury news on Thursday afternoon.

Derby 2-6 Arsenal
I'VE ADDED THE PICTURES OF THE MATCH TO THE GALLERY, YOU CAN SEE THEM HERE!!

Emannuel Adebayor struck a second-half hat-trick as Arsenal piled more misery on relegated Derby at Pride Park.

A ludicrous Darren Moore mistake let Nicklas Bendtner fire in the first before Jay McEveley poked in to level.

Robin van Persie chested a cross down and lashed home and then Adebayor tapped in at the back post.

Robert Earnshaw slotted in for Derby, but Theo Walcott scored a fine solo goal before Adebayor slid in a cross and then rolled home in stoppage time.

Derby's supporters have seen it all before this season, but after a promising opening it was still a remarkable collapse.

With Arsenal all-but guaranteed to finish third and Derby relegated many weeks ago, there was nothing of great significance riding on the game.

But the home side, who are still four points adrift of Sunderland's tally of 15 in the 2005/06 season - until now the worst by a Premier League team - made an impressive start which surprised the Gunners.

They nearly took the lead when Mile Sterjovski's 20-yard shot was heavily deflected by Alex Song and, with Lucasz Fabianski - making his first league start for the Gunners - wrong-footed, the ball dropped inches wide.

But Derby's season has been a catalogue of mistakes and after 24 minutes Moore stupidly gave the ball away to Van Persie, who played in Bendtner to fire under Roy Carroll.

Derby: Carroll, Todd, Moore, Stubbs, McEveley, Mears, Savage, Ghaly (Feilhaber 60), Lewis, Villa, Sterjovski (Earnshaw 69).
Subs Not Used: Price, Edworthy, Beardsley.
Goals: McEveley 31, Earnshaw 77.
Arsenal: Fabianski, Toure (Djourou 78), Gallas, Song Billong, Clichy, Eboue, Fabregas, Denilson (Silva 64), Walcott, Van Persie (Adebayor 46), Bendtner.
Subs Not Used: Almunia, Senderos.
Goals: Bendtner 25, Van Persie 39, Adebayor 59, Walcott 78, Adebayor 81, 90.

Dutch international Van Persie could get a rest
Arsène Wenger may rotate some of his players for the final three games of the season if they have a busy summer ahead.

Many of the Arsenal squad will be involved in Euro 2008 during June so, as his team have little left to play for, the Frenchman could rest them for the trips to Derby and Sunderland or the home game against Everton.

"That is what I have to think about," Wenger told Arsenal.com before the weekend games.

"Maybe I'll have to give the players who go to the European Championships a little breather before they go."

Robin van Persie could be one of the players who gets a rest.

Arsenal 2-0 Reading
I've added the pictures to the gallery, you can see them here!!

Arsene Wenger's side outclassed Reading and went ahead after 30 minutes when Emmanuel Adebayor slid home a calm finish from Kolo Toure's cross.

Gilberto Silva added a second before half-time when his long-range shot deflected in off Andre Bikey.

Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott struck the woodwork and Michael Duberry cleared off the line from Cesc Fabregas after the break as Arsenal dominated.

It was only Arsenal's second win in nine Premier League games - a damning statistic that tells the tale of how their title challenge has faded away.

Arsenal gave Walcott a rare start after his impressive displays as a substitute - and he played his part in a first-half display that swept Reading aside.

Royals boss Steve Coppell made six changes from the side that slumped to fellow strugglers Fulham, but they were powerless to stop an Arsenal side playing without the pressure of chasing trophies.

Arsenal created and wasted a host of chances before finally taking the lead through Adebayor after 30 minutes.

Toure was the creator with a cross, but Adebayor took a clever first touch before sliding a precise finish beyond Reading keeper Marcus Hahnemann.

And the advantage was deservedly doubled eight minutes later when Gilberto's long-range shot beat Hahnemann via Bikey's head.

There was still time for Hahnemann to save well from Toure and Gilberto before the half-time whistle spared Reading further punishment.

Arsenal continued to dominate after the break, but failed to make quick additions to their goals tally because of their occasionally infuriating habit of passing themselves to death rather than punishing the opposition.

Reading captain Graeme Murty was furious just after the hour when he was felled by Alexander Hleb's flailing hand, but the incident went unnoticed by referee Peter Walton.

Van Persie was desperately unlucky after 71 minutes when he curled a stunning left-foot free-kick against the woodwork from 20 yards.

And seconds later Walcott was denied when he shot against the bar with Hahnemann beaten.

Reading almost gave Arsenal an anxious moment with 13 minutes left when Bobby Convey took advantage of slack defending, but Jens Lehmann turned his effort over the top.

But normal service was swiftly resumed and Reading substitute Duberry did well to scramble back and clear off the line from Fabregas.

Van Persie sings Bergkamp's praises
The prospect of Dennis Bergkamp linking up with Marco van Basten at Ajax is an exciting one, according to Arsenal and Holland star Robin van Persie.

Coach Van Basten, along with assistants John van 't Schip and Rob Witschge, head to the Amsterdam ArenA after leading Holland at Euro 2008.

The trio were all team-mates of Bergkamp when he was a player at the club from 1986 to 1993.

Van Basten has already offered Bergkamp the chance to study for his Netherlands Football Association at Ajax next season.

Van Persie, whose time at Arsenal overlapped with Bergkamp's by two years, feels the union could be a dream ticket for the Amsterdam giants.

The former Feyenoord forward told Spotsweek magazine "It is extremely positive, what's happening there.

"Van Basten, Van 't Schip, Witschge and Bergkamp are pure football men. When you train under them things can hardly go wrong.

"Van Basten and Bergkamp together would have so much to offer. I would like to play under such a combination - only not at Ajax of course.

"You could always ask Dennis things. Although he never came to you by himself, he helped everybody.

"Guys who showed a special drive were players who he put his energy into. No matter what was wrong with them, he looked through that."

Van Persie - Style will triumph
Robin van Persie is convinced that Arsenal can claim success with their current philosophy of free-flowing football.

The Gunners have not lifted a trophy since they triumphed over Manchester United in the FA Cup in 2005.

Arsenal began the current season in impressive fashion, however their recent form, which has seen them manage just three clean sheets in their last 12 games, has all-but ended their hopes of claiming silverware.

But ahead of the vital trip to Old Trafford, live on Sky Sports 1, Van Persie is adamant that Arsene Wenger's side will stick with their footballing ethos, and eventually claim success.

"For me, the basic of football is to give enjoyment to people. That's where it starts," the Dutchman said. "We are like 11 actors, we have to give enjoyment to people buying a ticket.

"We will not change our philosophy now. Yes, at the end of season, people might say: 'Arsenal played great football yet won nothing?'

"But there are a lot of teams who didn't play so well and didn't win anything either. This is the way we think football has to be played.

"We really think that we can win things with our way of playing - with our approach to the game.

"We have to stick with our own ideas and our own way of playing football. I don't want to change because I really believe we can win things, big things, with this style of football."

Van Persie went on to laugh off reports that Wenger's job is under pressure, adding: "I don't think he is ever under pressure because what he has done for Arsenal is really, really big."

lamini out for three weeks, Van Persie back
Mathieu Flamini has been ruled out for three weeks after picking up an ankle injury against Liverpool on Tuesday.

As a result, Arsène Wenger is likely to bring in Gilberto for the crucial Premier League clash at Old Trafford this Sunday.

The Brazilian replaced Flamini when he was forced off at Anfield before half-time. It was ultimately a disappointing night for Arsenal and now the aim is to recover straight away. In fact it is essential if Arsenal are to keep their season alive. Even Wenger has labelled this weekend's game as must-win if his side are going to come back and take the title.

Robin van Persie, only a substitute in midweek, will be fit to start but Bacary Sagna will be absent due to an ankle problem.

"I believe Mathieu will be out for three weeks," Wenger told Arsenal TV Online on Thursday afternoon. "It is a big blow but Gilberto has a lot of quality and experience. He will come in. He can help the team recover and focus.

"Apart from that we don't have any other injuries from Tuesday. We have a few bumps and bruises but nothing special.

"Robin van Persie is available. He had two good sessions yesterday and today. He looks to be OK and we'll see how we go from here. But Bacary Sagna is out."

Liverpool 4- 2 Arsenal

Arsenal's European dream ended at Anfield on Tuesday night after a contentious penalty settled a pulsating Champions League tie in Liverpool's favour.

The visitors controlled the first half-hour and deservedly went in front when Abou Diaby lashed a shot past Jose Reina after a slick exchange with Alex Hleb. That gave Arsenal a 2-1 aggregate lead and a much sought-after away goal.

Liverpool levelled when Sami Hyypia was allowed a free header from Steven Gerrard's corner and got their noses in front when Fernando Torres struck with 22 minutes left. But Arsenal hit back when a brilliant 60-yard run from substitute Theo Walcott set up a tap-in for Emmanuel Adebayor. With just seven minutes left and a second away goal in the bag, a Semi-Final spot beckoned for Arsene Wenger's side, but the match turned on its head in an instant.

Seconds after drawing level Arsenal conceded a penalty when Kolo Toure was adjudged to have fouled Ryan Babel. Gerrard fired emphatically past Manuel Almunia, then Babel scored in stoppage time to put the tie beyond doubt.

It was harsh and heartbreaking for Arsenal . Now they must pick themselves up for a game which will have a huge bearing on their Premier League fate - a trip to Manchester United on Sunday.

Van Persie included in 18-man squad for Anfield clash
Robin van Persie has been included in Arsenal's 18-man squad for the Champions League Quarter-Final second leg against Liverpool at Anfield.

The Dutch forward was substituted at half-time in last Wednesday's first leg after suffering a recurrence of the thigh injury which has sidelined him for much of this year. Van Persie missed Saturday's Premier League clash with Liverpool but returns to the squad for Tuesday night's decisive European tie.

Abou Diaby is also back in Arsenal's squad. The Frenchman's domestic suspension does not affect his participation in European competition. Philippe Senderos is also back after sitting out the weekend game while Armand Traore drops out.

Bacary Sagna (ankle), Eduardo (broken leg) and Tomas Rosicky (leg) are all injured.

Arsenal squad to face Liverpool:

1 Jens LEHMANN
2 Abou DIABY
4 Cesc FABREGAS
5 Kolo TOURE

Van Persie is ruled out!
By Richard Clarke

Robin van Persie has been ruled out of the game against Liverpool on Saturday but Emmanuel Adebayor will be available.

The Dutchman was forced off at half-time in Wednesday's Champions League tie between the two sides with a thigh problem. Wenger gave Van Persie a 20 per cent chance of playing when he spoke to Arsenal TV Online on Thursday. A day later at the pre-match press conference, that probability fell to zero.

However there was better news on his strike partner who hurt his ankle in midweek.

"Robin is not available but Adebayor will be," said Wenger. "He is fit enough to start. I don't really know if he will be able to last 90 minutes. That is difficult to predict. Wednesday was an intense game but in the last 24 hours we have been able to assess the players for the upcoming game."

The absentees are Tomas Rosicky (hamstring), Abou Diaby (suspension), Bacary Sagna (ankle) and Eduardo (broken leg).

Arsenal will have to invoke the spirit of the San Siro for their Champions League Quarter-Final second leg at Anfield next week.

Liverpool would appear to have gained the advantage after securing a 1-1 draw in the opening rubber at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.

Emmanuel Adebayor gave Arsenal the lead with a thunderous header in the 23rd minute but Liverpool grabbed a vital away goal three minutes later when Dirk Kuyt scrambled home from close range following fine work by Steven Gerrard.

Arsenal bossed the second half. They might have had a penalty when Kuyt manhandled Hleb then Cesc Fabregas had a goal-bound effort inadvertently cleared off the unguarded Liverpool line by team-mate Nicklas Bendtner.

Undoubtedly, the prevailing post-match feeling was that Rafa Benitez' side have gained the whip-hand in the tie and Arsenal should have got more on the night. However the same was true in the last round when Milan came away with a 0-0 draw. Only for Arsenal to pull off the perfect 'Italian Job'.

Bolton 2-3 Arsenal
I've added the pictures to the gallery, you can see them here..!

Arsenal hung on in the title race by coming from 2-0 down to beat Bolton despite Abou Diaby's sending off. Matthew Taylor headed Bolton in front from a cross by Gretar Steinsson, who was later clattered by Diaby and the referee produced a straight red. Taylor's deflected drive doubled the lead before William Gallas volleyed home to cut the deficit.

Robin Van Persie made it 2-2 with a penalty and Arsenal won it when Jlloyd Samuel put through his own net late on.

Arsenal 1-2 Chelsea

I'VE ADDED THE PICTURES OF TODAY TO THE GALLERY!! YOU CAN SEE THEM HERE!!

Didier Drogba's double kept Chelsea's title hopes alive while damaging Arsenal's with a win that saw them leapfrog their rivals to go second.

William Gallas hit the post from five yards in the first half but Bacary Sagna put Arsenal in front with a near-post header on 59 minutes. Drogba equalised with a low drive after Juliano Belletti's long pass was laid off to him by Frank Lampard. And on 82 minutes Drogba poked home the winner after a Nicolas Anelka flick-on.

With Manchester United's victory over Liverpool earlier in the day, which put them six points clear at the top of the table, both sides were eager to get more than a point from the match - but were also desperate not to lose.
Chelsea began in more cautious fashion, allowing Arsenal plenty of time on the ball, while laying in wait in their defensive third to snuff out the attacks.

With Robin van Persie and Emmanuel Eboue hugging the touchlines, Arsenal used the width to good effect but without really penetrating.

Dutchman Van Persie sliced one shot high and wide when well placed and drove in a volley that was comfortably saved by Carlo Cudicini.

But while Arsenal were on top with their short passing game in the first 20 minutes, Chelsea's more direct approach dictated the play in the second part of the first half.

A lively Drogba sparked the change and he should have scored when clean though on goal but he miscontrolled the ball.

Van Persie - We must win at least one trophy
Robin van Persie is determined to make up for lost time by helping Arsenal scoop at least one trophy when the silverware is handed out in May.

A knee ligament injury and a recurring thigh problem restricted the Dutch forward to just three appearances in five months before he returned as a substitute at Wigan last week.

Van Persie started the 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough on Saturday and appears to have finally put a frustrating spell on the sidelines behind him. Now his aim is simple - to end the season with a winner's medal.

"I'm not a daydreamer, I really think we can win the title and Champions League this season," Van Persie told the Arsenal matchday programme.

"Why not? We have the qualities. We have to stick together and believe in it, belief can take you very far. We have everything to play for. Every game for me now is like a final.

"We have to win at least one trophy this season. At least, because if we don't we would have played fantastic football for nothing. So we need to win something because this is our moment. We all realise we are in a fantastic position and we need to take these opportunities.

"For me it is just a joy to be involved again because I missed it so much," added Van Persie.

"It's difficult to explain. When I came on at Wigan it was fantastic to be back. I just wanted to enjoy myself and help the team. I didn't score but I don't think I need to put too much pressure on myself. I just need to enjoy the game, if I do that, everything will follow."

I'VE ADDED THE PICTURES TO THE GALLERY..!! YOU CAN SEE THEM HERE.

Kolo Toure's late strike salvaged a point for Arsenal against valiant Middlesbrough who had Mido sent off.

Ex-Gunner Jeremie Aliadiere gave the visitors a shock lead when he converted Tuncay Sanli's superb cross.

But with just five minutes remaining Toure leapt highest to head in Cesc Fabregas' corner from the right.

Fabregas also had a shot blocked and a header hit the post before the last piece of action saw Mido sent off for a high tackle on Gael Clichy.

Wenger may unleash 'new signing' for Boro
Arsène Wenger may unveil a new signing against Middlesbrough on Saturday - a Dutch striker called Robin van Persie.

Ok, the 24-year-old is a familiar and welcome face at Arsenal having hit 41 goals in 125 appearances since arriving from Feyenoord almost four years ago. But, if he starts this weekend after his substitute appearance at Wigan last Sunday, even his manager believes it will feel like a fresh acquisition after a season beset by injury problems.

"He is [like a new signing]," said Wenger. "He has only played the first eight games and scored five goals. At the time you thought that could make for an interesting total towards the end of the season. Now I feel he can give us the last push. He can give the final ball, take free kicks, he's dangerous on corners and, of course, he can score.

"We lost Eduardo recently, so the pressure was on Adebayor. But with Robin back and Theo Walcott aswell we now have three or four who can score and that's very important."

Despite the absence of Van Persie and latterly Eduardo, Arsenal have hardly struggled in front of goal. Their tally of 57 in the Premier League is one behind top-scorers Manchester United.

"Yes Adebayor has got 19 and we did not count for that at the start of the season," said Wenger. "But I was hopeful about him. However Hleb has got a few so has Eduardo and Fabregas. Rosicky got some as well, that is why I want him back from injury too. And Walcott is starting to score as well so that is all good for us."

Wenger - Van Persie can play a part in Milan
By Chris Harris

Arsène Wenger has explained his decision to recall Robin van Persie for Tuesday night's Champions League clash with Milan.

The Dutch forward returned to full training on Friday but he has played just three games since late October because of injury and has been out since early January because of a thigh problem.

Wenger insisted he would not rush Van Persie back into action but the Frenchman believes the 24-year-old has a role to play in the San Siro.

"He has not played for five months really but he can play a part in the game," said Wenger. "He is not ready to start but medically it is not a risk. Maybe to start in the game and play above his normal pace, that would be a risk."

Kolo Toure has not recovered from the calf injury he sustained in the first leg against Milan but, according to Wenger, "he is not far from being there."

Emmanuel Eboue is available as his suspension does not cover Champions League games but Tomas Rosicky (hamstring), Alex Song (knee) and Eduardo (leg/ankle) are all out.

Arsenal squad:

Jens LEHMANN (GK)
Abou DIABY
Bacary SAGNA
Cesc FABREGAS

Van Persie and Djourou are back in training
By Richard Clarke

Robin van Persie came back to full training on Friday.

The Dutchman will not figure against Aston Villa or Milan but his return is welcome news after the loss of Eduardo for the season with a broken leg.

Van Persie has played only three games since late October because of injury. He has been out since early January because of a thigh problem. He was one of two players back on the field at the training ground on Friday.

"The news is good," said Wenger. "It is Robin's first time back in full training. He looks quite good but I won't rush him back because I have made that mistake before.

"The other one who is back is Johan Djourou but he is not in the squad tomorrow."

The only player returning for the game against Villa on Saturday is Abou Diaby. The full list of absentees is: Alex Song (knee), Tomas Rosicky (hamstring), Kolo Toure (calf), Johan Djourou (groin), Van Persie (thigh) and Emmanuel Eboue (suspended).

Wenger - Van Persie can boost our run-in
The return of Robin van Persie could give Arsenal a crucial injection of confidence and goals for the run-in, according to Arsène Wenger.

A combination of ailments has meant the Dutch striker has played just three times in the last five months. He is hoping to return to training next week after a thigh problem however, contrary to indications on Thursday, the 24-year-old is unlikely to be in the squad for the Champions League Knockout Round second leg on March 4.

Still, speaking at Friday's pre-match press conference, Arsène Wenger did suggest Van Persie's eventual return would be a welcome fillip.

"It could be a positive when he comes back," said the Frenchman. "It could give us the kind of push that is needed and we hope that happens soon.

"At the moment Robin is close to returning to the squad training next week. But he will be short for the second leg in Milan because he has not really played for five months.

"However I must say as well I would like Diaby back and I would like Djourou back, because with Kolo out we are short of centre backs.

"And I would like Rosicky back too because, in games like Wednesday night, he would have been important."

Van Persie looks better but still not back
Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Eboue are in contention for Saturday's FA Cup tie at Manchester United.

The Ivorian duo returned from the Africa Cup of Nations on Monday and are due to report for training today. Neither Toure or Eboue played in their country's final game in Ghana, the third and fourth place play-off against the hosts on Saturday, but they could feature at Old Trafford.

Arsène Wenger admitted before the Blackburn game that he was down to the "bare bones" thanks to injuries and international commitments. Manuel Almunia, Abou Diaby, Tomas Rosicky, Robin van Persie, Denilson and Johan Djourou were all sidelined for Arsenal’s 2-0 victory but Rosicky could return at the weekend.

"Kolo and Eboue came back today [Monday] so we hope to see them tomorrow to see if they're not injured," said Wenger at his post-match press conference.

"Rosicky, he looks better. Van Persie looks better, but he is still a few weeks away. But Rosicky maybe has a little chance for Saturday."

There will be a update about the injury next Thursday

Van Persie - We’ll prove the doubters wrong
Robin van Persie is raring to take up the baton his team-mates have carried so brilliantly in his absence.

The 24-year-old, who grabbed a first slice of competitive action in nearly two months against Steaua Bucharest on Wednesday, believes that failure is something only others are expecting.

The Gunners have silenced many of their critics since the season begun, producing some mesmeric football along the way. But despite being top of Premier League and having qualified for the Champions League after four games the doubters continue to dismiss their title credentials.

The Dutchman believes that those waiting to pounce on any slip-up are sure to be left disappointed.

“Everyone was waiting for us to fall down, but we're not going to fall down,” said Van Persie. “Of course, we are going to lose a game in the season; maybe we are going to lose two or three; we're going to have a few draws, that's normal.

“When you play so many games you're going to lose some. But we know everyone is waiting for us to lose more games, and we're going to fall down. Not at all.

“I've been at the training ground every single day and I know what those guys are capable of.”

Many had predicted that Arsenal’s demise would occur either at Anfield or when champions Manchester United visited the Emirates. It didn’t. On Sunday the Gunners face the last of the ‘Big Four’. Undefeated in 13, Chelsea are in good form but Van Persie is not worried.

“I'm not scared to face anybody,” he said. “I know my team-mates are thinking the same. Chelsea have a good side, they play a different style to us, respect to them. We play our style and I think if we play at the top of our game we can beat anybody.”

Adebayor longs for Robin
Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor admits he has missed playing alongside Robin van Persie.

Van Persie has been sidelined for six weeks with a knee injury; however he is nearing a return - with a comeback pencilled in for December's clash against Aston Villa.

Adebayor feels the Dutchman is one of The Gunners' key players, and he has voiced his belief that the 24-year-old will take little time to hit the heights of his early season form.

"I miss him a lot, of course. He is one of the main men of our team," he told Sky Sports News.

"But at the moment he is injured, so you have to believe. That is part of football.

"I know he is passing through a lot of difficult moments, but we are out there doing the job for him.

"I think he is proud about the way we are playing at the moment. And he will be more confident when he comes back.

"I know his character, I'm not afraid. I know when he will be back it will just take him one or two weeks and he will be back scoring."

Arsenal have gone 19 Premier League matches unbeaten, however Adebayor believes their current record counts for little at this stage of the season.

"We are very happy with that. The most important thing I would like to talk about is being unbeaten in May, if that is possible," he added.

Van Persie kick warning
Robin Van Persie fears the potential stars of tomorrow's Premier League blockbuster - Cesc Fabregas and Cristiano Ronaldo - might defect to Spain to escape English football's hatchet men.

Arsenal wonder-kid Fabregas and Manchester United magician Ronaldo face each other in a match that promises to surpass last Sunday's duel between the Gunners and Liverpool.

But Arsenal striker Van Persie fears Ronaldo could leave for La Liga and Fabregas could follow if either fails to get the protection from referees that allows them to express themselves.

Van Persie, currently out with a knee injury, said: "You have to stay within certain boundaries."

Ronaldo was sent off at Portsmouth earlier in the season for retaliation, but Van Persie insisted he was more sinned against than sinner.

The Dutchman added: "I know he headbutted an opponent, but he was kicked continually. Some referees do protect you, but not enough."

Referring to Arsenal's trip to Blackburn, Van Persie accused Rovers of giving Fabregas a hard time. He said: "Yes, that was nice, really English.

You prepare yourself for a battle, especially when you go north. That's not a problem.

"However, I do have a problem when Fabregas is brought down and someone 'purely by accident' plants his studs on his neck."

Arsenal 2-2 Man Utd
By Phil McNulty

William Gallas equalised in injury-time to salvage a draw and keep Arsenal on top of the Premier League after an absorbing clash with Manchester United.

Gallas turned Wayne Rooney's half-hit effort into his own goal on the stroke of half time to give United the lead.

Cesc Fabregas' cool finish put Arsenal level two minutes after the break, but Cristiano Ronaldo slid home Patrice Evra's cross nine minutes from time.

But Gallas then scrambled in Gael Clichy's cross to earn a point.

Knee injury could sideline Van Persie for a month
By Richard Clrake

Early estimates suggest Robin van Persie will be sidelined for four weeks after picking up a knee injury on international duty.

When Arsène Wenger spoke to Arsenal TV Online on Thursday afternoon he had not seen his Dutch striker since he’d picked up the problem in the Euro 2008 qualifier against Slovenia the previous night. But the initial guidance led him to believe the 24-year-old could be out for a month.

“It looks like a knee injury,” said the manager. “We will know later today how bad it is but the early signs are that he will not be able to perform for us in the next four weeks.

“It is a big blow. Robin is a striker, a supportive striker and important on set-pieces as well. I hope he will be back soon and we’ll do the maximum to get him back.”
